Statement Against Racism

“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.” — Nelson Mandela

Linden Waldorf School actively repudiates racism in all its forms.

As educators, we share responsibility with our families and community for what our students learn. As Waldorf educators, we hold the dignity of life and the human being at the center of our work. It is our responsibility to bear witness to what is happening in the world, to elevate the voices of marginalized people, to change the course of inequities, and to break down structural prejudice in all forms where it exists, particularly in Waldorf education.

"I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know better, I do better." — Maya Angelou

We acknowledge our imperfection.

We know that talking is not enough and recommit ourselves to our quest to know better and do better through the elevation and prioritization of our work on justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion through self-study, in the classroom, and in the curriculum.

“The beauty of anti-racism is that you don’t have to pretend to be free of racism to be an anti-racist. Anti-racism is the commitment to fight racism wherever you find it, including in yourself. And it’s the only way forward.” — Ijeoma Oluo

As an educational community committed to inclusion and acceptance and devoted to the inherent dignity of each human being and the right of each to growth, development, and equity, we stand in solidarity against the injustices of not only recent times, but all times. We stand ever more steadfast in this conviction as educators devoted to cultivating in children the capacity to see the goodness and value of each other and to stand up for the rights of human beings throughout the world.
