Karimah Williams, who was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, is currently attending law school out of state. Karimah attended Essex County College, where she studied and received an AS degree in Social Science and a certificate in Paralegal Studies. She received a BS degree in Criminal Justice from Rutgers University, graduating cum laude and inducted as a member of Alpha Phi Sigma (Criminal Justice Honor Society). She also received an Early Career Excellence Award from Rutgers Newark for her continuous community service work after graduating. She received her Master of Arts degree in Restorative Justice (MARJ) at Vermont Law and Graduate School, and is currently pursuing her JD degree. Throughout her work, Karimah has pursued careers in the field of social service and law, holding down many positions as a receptionist/para-clerk in law firms or working as an intake specialist for a nonprofit organization to assist/counsel and mentor young and older adults. Her volunteer services included an internship at a law firm in Newark and assisting the Newark Police Department Citizens/Clergy Ambassador Program where she rode around with the Newark Police Department for non-emergency calls.
In her spare time, when she visits New Jersey, Karimah assists her karate teacher as a 2nd degree black belt, along with her youngest daughter who is a 1st degree black belt, or she volunteers with the Legal Aid Society and Black Law Student Association (BLSA) at her school. Karimah’s future goal is to work with organizations like the Institute for Social Justice or the Innocence Project to bring awareness to injustice in urban cities.
