Janet Patterson Karns came to Linden with her experiences of teaching kindergarten and high school English in public schools, a decade working as an editor, and a deep interest in Waldorf education. She was the first graduate of the Honors College at Middle Tennessee State University, where she received a BA in English with minors in Secondary Education and Interdisciplinary Studies. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the Sewanee School of Letters at The University of the South, and she has also completed Foundation Studies through the Center for Anthroposophy.

Since 2011, Janet has served Linden in several roles, including kindergarten assistant, guest middle school creative writing teacher, assistant to the head of school, accreditation coordinator, and special projects coordinator. In her current role, Janet helps with social media, the weekly newsletter, the website, the yearbook, providing editorial support, maintaining accreditation, and various other special projects in support of Linden.
